To get to Tysoe village, go to the end of the drive and turn right. When you come to a T junction, turn right again. You’ll pass a few houses and the Old Fire Station on your right-hand side before you reach our Post Office, village stores, tea room and hair dressers/beauty salon.
The Post Office is open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12.30pm on a Saturday. On a Thursday only, it closes for lunch between 1pm and 2pm. They also sell fresh flowers and a variety of cards, gifts and stationary.
The Village Stores is very well stocked and is open from 8am to 8pm every day except Sunday when it closes at 7pm. It has fresh bread and cakes delivered most days and sells a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables. Sunday newspapers go very quickly (especially the Sunday Times) so either reserve one in advance or get up early if you don’t want a trip into Banbury or Shipston.
The Tea Room in Tysoe is accessed via the Village Stores and is lovely. The carrot cake is exceptional. The opening times vary throughout the year but as a rule, it’s open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday.
New Looks Hair and Beauty is open Tuesday to Saturday. Sarah and her team of hairdressers get very booked up weeks in advance, but telephone them on 01295 680671 to see if they have any free appointments during your stay. Vicki is the beautician who works there and she can also be contacted on the same telephone number.
There are two churches in the village – St Mary’s (CofE) and Tysoe Methodist Church. Details of their weekly services are on display on their notice boards. St Mary’s holds a children’s service at 11am on the first Sunday in every month.
There’s a nice children’s play area in Tysoe. You can park in the car park alongside the Old Fire Station and just walk around the back to find a huge playing field, zip wire and play area.
The nearest supermarket is the Co-Op in Shipston-on-Stour although there is a large Sainsburys in Wellesbourne and you’ll find a fabulous new Waitrose in Banbury and Stratford upon Avon.
There’s an excellent butcher in Brailes called Paddock Farm (they supply Jamie Oliver’s restaurants). They have a pig farm locally and their pork chops and sausages are sensational.
There is a local taxi firm – Cherwell Cars (Banbury). Their telephone number is 01295 255555.
Tysoe Doctors Surgery can be contacted 01295 680220 for emergency appointments. You will need to inform them that you are on holiday here and need to be seen as an ‘out of area patient’. The surgery is well signposted in the village.

For fast foodies a fish and chip van visits the Peacock in Tysoe car park on Tuesdays from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. This is a fairly new service and we haven’t tried them out yet but have heard they are very good. The nearest take away restaurants are in Shipston-upon-Stour (a five-mile drive). You will find a local pizza restaurant, Chinese, Indian and fish and chip shop (none of them deliver here). There is also an Indian restaurant/takeaway in Wroxton Heath (Indian Queen – see here for details). If you’re looking for a chain restaurant, then it’s a trip into either Banbury or Stratford-upon-Avon. We’ve only ever found one restaurant (Chinese) that will deliver to here – the Hong Kong in Kineton. Their telephone number is 01926 640364.
There are two leisure centres locally, both with indoor swimming pools, in Shipston on Stour and Stratford upon Avon. There is also an open-air swimming pool in Banbury and you can find details of their opening times hereLocal Information
