Tysoe Village

To get to Tysoe Village from Winchcombe Farm, go to the end of the drive and turn right. When you come to a T-junction, turn right again. You’ll pass a few houses and the Old Fire Station on your right-hand side before you reach our Post Office, village stores, tea room, hairdressers/beauty salon and doctor’s surgery.

Tysoe Post Office is open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays. On Thursdays only it closes for lunch between 1pm and 2pm. They also sell fresh flowers and a variety of cards, gifts and stationery.

Tysoe Village Stores is extremely well stocked and is open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 7pm on Sundays They have fresh bread and cakes delivered most days, and sell a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables. Sunday papers get snapped up very quickly (especially the Sunday Times) so either reserve one in advance or get up early if you want to avoid a trip into Banbury or Shipston.

Tysoe Tea Room is accessed via the Village Stores and is worth a visit. The carrot cake is exceptional! Their opening times vary throughout the year but as a rule, in the summer months, it’s open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday.

New Looks Hair and Beauty is open Tuesday to Saturday. Sarah and her team of hairdressers get booked up weeks in advance, but telephone them on 01295 680671 to enquire about free appointments during your stay. Vicki is the beautician who works there and she can also be contacted on the same number.

There are two churches in the village – St Mary’s (CofE) and Tysoe Methodist Church. Details of their weekly services are on display on their notice boards. St Mary’s holds a children’s service at 11am on the first Sunday in every month.

There is a delightful children’s play area in Tysoe. You can park in the car park alongside the Old Fire Station and just walk around the back to find a huge field, zip wire and play area.

Grocery shopping

All major supermarkets will delivery grocery shopping to Winchcombe Farm. Please let them know which lodge you are staying in but we will always point delivery drivers in the right direction. The nearest supermarket is the Co-Op in Shipston-on-Stour, although there is a decent-sized Sainsbury’s in Wellesbourne. You find all major supermarkets in either Banbury or Stratford-upon-Avon.

There’s an excellent butcher in Brailes called Paddock Farm (they supply Jamie Oliver’s restaurants). They have a pig farm locally and their pork chops and sausages are sensational.

Public transport

The nearest mainline train station to us is Banbury (about 15 minutes away by car/taxi). The nearest airport to us is Birmingham International (about 40 minutes away from us by car/taxi).

There is an infrequent bus service available from Tysoe village and you can visit bustimes.org for the latest timetable.

Petrol and motor vehicle repair

The nearest petrol station is in Pillerton Priors (CV35 0PB) and it’s open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. The nearest 24-hour petrol station is at Tesco in Banbury (OX16 1LX). Pillerton Priors Garage is next door to the petrol station and they come highly recommended for any motor vehicle repairs you may require.

Babysitting

If you need a babysitter during your stay, we can provide you with details of two fully qualified, paediatric first aid-trained and DBS-approved childminders.

Medical emergencies

The nearest A&E department is at the Horton Hospital in Banbury (OX16 9AL).

Tysoe Doctors Surgery (CV35 0SG) can be contacted on 01295 680220 for emergency appointments. You will need to inform them that you are on holiday here to be seen as an ‘out of area patient’. The surgery is well signposted in the village.

We use an NHS dentist in Wellsbourne called Langmans (CV35 9SB) and you can contact them on 01789 840786 for emergency appointments.

The nearest chemist is Kineton Pharmacy (CV35 0HN).

Leisure Centres

Cinemas

There are two cinemas locally – Everyman Cinema in Stratford-upon-Avon (CV37 6JW) and the Odeon Cinema in Banbury (OX16 0AH).
